Members of the Korean Railway Workers¡¯ Union yesterday stage a rally in front of the railway administration¡¯s headquarters in Daejeon after they launched a two-day strike starting in non-metropolitan areas. Many travelers received refunds. After failing to narrow differences in labor-management talks with Korail, the railway workers launched a partial strike. Korail was forced to cancel operations of 12 passenger trains that were set to depart from Seoul yesterday. Passengers using the high-speed KTX weren¡¯t affected after Korail brought in 820 extra workers. Korail has temporarily switched two fare booths at Seoul Station into refund booths. As the railway workers expand their strike today to Seoul and other metropolitan areas, Korail forecasted at least 18 passenger trains will be canceled. To minimize inconvenience, Korail said it will add 900 extra workers. [YONHAP]
