As the summer vacation season heats up, banks are operating temporary ¡°portable¡± offices at popular local beaches for customer convenience - and promotion, of course. Woori Bank said in a statement yesterday that it would place ¡°Portable Woori Bankar¡± booths on Gyeongpodae Beach in Gangneung, Gangwon until Aug. 16. The ¡°bankar¡± is a 17-ton truck with its own electrical generator, satellite, two automatic teller machines and a staff of three. Customers can withdraw cash, open new accounts, transfer money to other accounts and even set up financial consultations. The bank-on-wheels will be open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. - later than its stationary siblings - and will be open on Saturdays and Sundays to meet demands from summer vacationers. Kookmin Bank, the nation¡¯s biggest lender, will also open a portable office in a 16-ton truck with ATMs and workers on Haeundae Beach in Busan from Monday until Aug. 9. Its hours will be the same as Kookmin¡¯s ordinary bank branches, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Saturdays and Sundays, only ATM services will be available. Shinhan Bank will set up its portable branch on Mangsang Beach in Donghae, Gangwon starting today. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day until Aug. 6. A big electronic board at the office will show bank¡¯s advertisements and even information about swimmers¡¯ safety. The ¡°Portable Hana Bank,¡± operated by Korea¡¯s fourth-largest lender, will hit the beaches along Korea¡¯s west coast from Monday until Aug. 18, while the Industrial Bank of Korea will run a portable office on Mannipo Beach, Taean County, South Chungcheong from Monday to Aug. 14.
