With 100 days left until the Seoul Design Olympiad 2008, the city yesterday appointed six emissaries for the event, including two world-class Korean designers and four foreign ambassadors to Korea.

Seoul was selected as the first World Design Capital by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design in October 2007. As such, the city is holding this festival to promote Seoul as a center of world design and to show off its potential as a cultural mecca.

Four ambassadors to Korea Philippe Thiebaud of France, Massimo Andrea Leggeri of Italy, Norbert Baas of Germany, and Hans Heinsbroek of Holland ? will promote the festival in their regions.

The two Korean designers, Kim Young and Lie Sang-bong, will head up a public relations campaign aimed at attracting local citizens and international designers to the event.

¡°We will host the world festival every year starting this year,¡± said city official Cho Seong-jin.

¡°This is a good chance for us to develop Seoul into a world design hub.¡±

The first world design festival will be held in downtown Seoul and in and around Olympic Park in Jamsil from Oct. 10 to 30. It will include several big events including a conference, an exhibition and a competition.
