Boar leads stalkers on a 12-hour chase

A boar that made an appearance near the Blue House eluded capture for about 12 hours yesterday despite the efforts of about 90 would-be capturers.
According to firefighters at Jongno Fire Station, they received the first report of a boar on the prowl at about 2:30 a.m. yesterday morning. Officials from an emergency rescue squad, the police and an animal rescue association set out to capture the animal.
“We fired four tranquilizer darts near Chongwun Middle School, located about a kilometer from the Blue House,” a firefighter from Jongno Fire Station said. “We succeeded in capturing the boar in a net, but it died at the site,” he added. (Photo, Page 2.)
Veterinarians later said the cause of death was shock. They added that the pig had probably escaped from a farm, judging from the type of food in its stomach. |
